In the first few chapters, you've provided value, tips and tricks not just to conquer the fear of the ball, but also to the curve balls life throws at us. Brilliant! The technical stuff is conversational. It's not written like a theory book. It's like someone is telling you what/how and why to do /not do certain things. Very engaging and I like the consistent comparison of how an average batter would approach the ball versus the pro. Most importantly, the book does not say that the pro status is unattainable or is a very exalted status. It is a status every batter can achieve, through training and the right mind set. I loved the case studies. The reference to how cricket idols approach cricket is very useful and brings the whole book together. Overall, it is a light read and I enjoyed it. I would really encourage my son, Haresh to read this book too as there's tons to unlearn and learn after reading this book.
Fantastic work, Trevor.

What stood out to me straight away was the way the book tackles the mental side of batting. It’s rare to find something that really gets under the surface like this. The mindset section gave my son clarity—not just about cricket, but about how he approach's pressure in general. Then the spin section… WOW! It broke things down in a way I’ve never seen before. Instead of guessing footwork or shot selection, I now feel like I can inform my son to have a proper method. It’s not jargon-heavy either. The writing is friendly, like a coach talking to you directly. I also appreciated how it shows that improvement isn’t just for the “gifted”—it’s for anyone willing to do the work.
Robert-approved!
I’ve already gone back to re-read key parts and will definitely be using these lessons in the nets with my son.

Your head is the command centre of your batting. Where it goes, your body follows. If it leans back, you lose balance. If it falls across, you lose alignment. Good players don’t have magical reflexes, they just keep their head still, their eyes level, and their body in sync. It’s not flashy, but it’s the difference between edging to slip and punching a four through cover.
Right Way vs Wrong Way
Forward Defense
The forward defence is your shield — your way to survive, reset, and assert control. To play it correctly, everything starts with intent.
Your front foot must move forward and towards the line of the ball, not just forward for the sake of it. As you step out, ensure your head and front shoulder are aligned directly over the ball. That way, your weight transfers smoothly.
Foot Planting
One of the most common faults I see — especially in younger players — is the habit of planting the front foot early.
Players get eager. They see a ball that’s ‘probably’ full, and they throw their front foot out before the ball has even bounced. But here’s the problem: once that foot is down, you’ve committed. You’ve locked your hips, locked your base, and lost your options.
Why Listen to me
As the Director of Junior Cricket at Addiscombe Cricket Club and the owner of a specialist cricket academy, I’ve spent over fifteen years coaching amateur and semi-professional batters. My passion for the game is deeply personal, shaped by my own struggles with the mental and technical side of cricket during my teenage years. I know firsthand how internal battles can hold even the most talented players back.
The pressure that young players and adults alike place on themselves, amplified by expectations from coaches, peers, and families can be overwhelming. It’s a silent weight that often goes unnoticed but has a huge impact on performance.
That’s why my coaching philosophy goes far beyond technique and drills. I place equal emphasis on developing mental strength helping players build resilience, clarity, and confidence at the crease.
These aren’t just cricketing traits; they’re life skills. My mission is to TRANSFORM players unlock their full potential — not just through their skills, but through a mindset that sets them free to succeed, both on and off the field
